How about a little Cola.
Better yet, how about a huge, oversized, colossal cola?

Last year this lily was 54” tall. This year it’s 6’ tall. Next year I plan on climbing it to grab the goose that lays the golden eggs and maybe the magic harp while I'm up there too.

Not thirsty…how about hungry?

Lollipop Lily. I love this little cutie.

Not hungry? How about just some eye candy then.
This delicate flower is on one heck of a strong climber. Mme. Julia Correvon Clematis.

This larger flower is on a weaker climber that requires a lot of tying, but worth it. And I don’t know the name of it because it was mis-labeled. It was supposed to be a double blue but I’m happy with the result (although I really did want a double blue).

This one I’m not so happy with. Bought last year, it didn’t bloom but instead spread out. Okay, I was a bit disappointed, but waited for this year to see it. Well, there are a ton of blooms this year, and I would be ecstatic except for one thing.

It was supposed to be CHERRY RED. %&&$$# What’s with these people and their labels??

I guess if you want to be sure you get the colors you want, you buy them already blooming. Thanks to Betty Boop and SisterNan, I have instant color in my back yard with this Supertunia "Bordeaux"

And this multi-colored Verbena

And last but certainly not least, this one is for Rose of Prairie Rose’s Garden. She mentioned in one of her posts that she couldn’t find an Illumination Begonia this year. Hey Rose, you’re certainly welcome to share one of mine.

Oh my! They're all stunning. I want to come and hang out in your garden. I'll bring my yarn.

Wow Flydragon! That lily is super tall and such a pretty color. In fact, all of your blooms are beautiful and that Illumination Begonia is perfect. Are your hummer friends fond of any of these blooms???

Betty said...

Your flowers are absolutely beautiful! Thanks for showing us your 'colors'...lovely pictures.

Am glad I stopped by--your flowers/pictures are gorgeous. The Cola lilies do look good enough to add to rum and coke!!! And it looks like everything is more than hanging in there!

Ooooh! I have a lily like the first picture. This is year 3, and it's about 48" tall, and the blooms have doubled each year. What do you feed yours?

Susie said...

That illumination begonia is just beautiful flydragon. I can see why Rose would want one of those. I enjoyed all of your flowers.

I really enjoyed your post today. My sister at
sent me over. I especially love lilies and irises!

Hey! Your Illumination begonia is beautiful..they really filled out nicely! That is one big Cola Lily..very impressive!! Everything looks just lovely!! The tag thing..our grands used to go into the greenhouses and collect those tags..they would have their hands full..and it would drive Far Guy nuts..he tried to put them back in place, but sometimes he was a little confused. Another time, he seeded a white petunia and grabbed the red tags..they sold with those red tags until they bloomed.. things can get easily confused in a greenhouse..customers sometimes do not put the tags back in the same plant they got them from either:(

Very pretty! We have several of that "supposed to be a double blue" clematis, and I can't remember what it is called, either.

Mornin' Flydragon! Love your post. I was just going to ask you how you keep the squirrels out of your feeder and then you showed one and a chippy too. Love your bird shots.

I enjoy your blog in general because since I am NE Ohio also, I should be able to grow whatever you grow. Right? Hmmmmm I have two perennial beds in front of the house and three raised veggie beds in the back yard. All are doing well.

I'm going to be revamping my blog soon and start showing only nice things.

Thanks for sharing all your beautiful photos of your awesome yard.

Oh, I am sooo jealous! Your illumination begonia is just gorgeous--is this one you started from seed? I "discovered" a new nursery in our area and found out they had had lots of Illuminations early in the season. Next year I'll be there in April:)

All your blooms look lovely. I'm attracted to the names as well and seem to buy anything that suggests food--my heucheras are "Creme Brulee," "Tiramisu," "Plum Pudding," and "Key Lime." Gotta go--I have a sudden urge to eat some dessert.

I bought a Cherry Bells campanula last year and it didn't survive the winter. I think I like the white better.

I've never had an asiatic lily grow over 3 feet tall here. I'll have to watch for Cola. I like the color too altho I wouldn't call it cola colored.

Ooooh! what delightfully lovely blooms! Thanks so much for sharing them with us.

Everything is doing GREAT! I guess I'll have be satisfied with the white bell flower also. I don't have as many blooms but sure is spreading. Wonder how the flowers look now after 3 inches of rain in less than two hrs. Middle sis

Di said...

Yea! I finally found out what a Cola Lilly is. Bravo! You are one great gardener. I just baught a Penstemon called Jingle Bells. It wasn't in bloom, but is supposed to have red bell like flowers, wonder if they'll be white? :D :D

Brenda said...

Beautiful! I don't think I have ever seen a 6 foot lily before. All of them are gorgeous.

T said...

Very pretty! I wanted to stop by and say hi. I have commented on your last post and the one before that, and for some reason, I am being rejected,:( or something... Thought I would give it one more try, ya know, 3 times a charm and all. :)

Hope you are doing well.

Good heavens a six foot lily!!! My Angelica is over 10 feet tall, maybe I'll have to climb that to look for the goose, lol. Great pictures.

TC said...

Your "larger flower on a weaker climber that requires a lot of tying" appears to be 'Jackmanii,' an old favorite clematis known for its lovely purple flowers. We've had ours for at least ten years.
Lilies are in here too, and I see you also have 'Lollipop.'

troutbirder said...

My goodness. I have a Cola. I had no idea you could get them that tall!

flydragon said...

Hey, okay, then you can teach me to knit:))
(still coming?)

Alas, I haven't seen any of my hummer friends since June 18. (yes, I keep track:)

Thanks Betty.

No surprises for you since you've seen them all already:)

This is the third year for mine too. I just feed them Plant Tone and Miracle Gro. I have no idea why they got sooooo tall. They also had 3 babies this year.

I think Rose would have liked a yellow one which I think is what she had last year, but I hope she likes orange too:)

Hi Karen,
Mildred is one of my favorites. Along with Harriet of course:)

Ha, I can see why the grands could drive farguy crazy with the tag game:)) In this case, since my sister also bought one last year and hers is also white, I'm thinking it was just carelessness on the part of the growers. I sooooo wanted a red one:)

Well, I hope you were happy with the end result as much as I was, even if they weren't blue:)

Lovely gorgeous flowers accompanied by interesting and informative narration.

When I am thirsty, I drink coconut water. Do you have it in your place?

Have a nice day:)

flydragon said...

Hi Coneflower,
I love the veg. gardens you show. Ha, If I only showed nice things, I would only be posting once a month:)

Yes, this is the ones I started from seed. Hopefully they keep up the good work all summer:) I once had some begonias that were still blooming with snow on them:) Glad you found a nursery that carries them for next year.
I love food names too!! Your's sound yummy:)

I wouldn't call it cola either. I wonder why they did. I think Wine would have fit much better:)

And thank you for stopping over:)

At least what's her name will know you this time.

You know they're all flattened down now. Hopefully a little sun, if it ever shines again, will pop them back up, but I kinda doubt it.

I've never seen or heard of Jingle Bells. Hope to see a picture when it blooms!!

flydragon said...

I've never seen one that tall either:) It just kept growing and growing and......

Hi T.
I guess the blogger brat is acting up again:) I guess the third time was the charm. Yes, I'm doing fine:)

If you start climbing, watch out for that giant up there:))

Nope, that clematis isn't Jackmanii. I do have one of those (probably about 10 years too) but it hasn't started blooming yet.

Neither did I:))

Hi Joseph,
I don't know if we have coconut water around here or not. I'll have to keep my eye out for it. Thanks for stopping by.

Who is that? Oh never mind! I will see in person soon.

Skye said...

Oh I love them all! They are absolutely gorgeous! I had planted a Lily last year that I had gotten from my grandmother. Her's is the same as your 6 footer, mine didn't come up, I'm so disappointed :(

But I do have other Lily's that are blooming, and even a Hen-'n'-Chick that is ready to bloom soon. The sad part about them blooming is that once they bloom, they die, the good thing though is that they spread so much so quickly that I have lots of them, and it's only the one hen and one chick that are blooming. I've had them for so many years, and yet had never known they bloom. This will be interesting to see what they look like when they do!

nicole said...

yowza! i wish i had that green thumb.

Skye said...

By the way FlyDragon, I have a mission for you over at my place should you wish to accept it! :)

Donna said...

OMG! THOSE flowers are beautiful.I have been looking for something to give my yard some color. You gave me some good ideas.

flydragon said...

Hi Skye,
I'm sorry your lily didn't make it. I've never planted hen & chicks. Hope you post a pic of them when they bloom!!

Ha, I think you do!!

Hi Donna,
Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you got some ideas from my lowly pictures:) I'm off to see your blog now.

Beautiful, hope that lily gets the golden egg next summer!

flydragon said...

Hi TC,
Still kicking over here, just not quite as high:) Hopefully I'll come up with a post soon. Thanks for asking:)

I've never had a 6" lily before. Can't wait to see how big it gets next year!

The Crusty Crone said...

oh my, what a wonderful green thumb you must have... those plants are GORGEOUS!! Especially the Illumination Begonia.

flydragon said...

Hi Crusty,
Thanks, I wish I could take credit for the flowers but I think it was because of the weather we've had this summer. Cooler than normal the entire time. I guess they like their weather the same as we do:)

Rose said...

Your flowers are gorgeous!! BTW, where are you lately?

flydragon said...

Hi Rose,
I've been a bit under the weather lately. Hopefully I'll be posting soon.

Far Side of Fifty said...

What is this under the weather crap? Are you gonna be OK? Those daughters of yours better have one eye on you! I miss you:)

flydragon said...

Hi Connie,
Crap is the right word!!
As for between the daughters and sisters, I have more eyes on me than an old potato:)))

Anonymous said...

"old potato"???? That's an understatement!

Just stopped by to see how things are going. Hope you're feeling better. I worry about old friends when they don't post for a long time but I see you have responded to a couple comments so I know you're still out there;)

flydragon said...

Hi Marnie,
Yes, I'm still here and although I haven't posted anything for quite a while, and I haven't commented on my favorite blogs, I still read them all the time. Hopefully I'll get a post up soon. Thanks:)

Susie said...

flydragon are you okay? I was thinking last night how I hadn't seen anything from you in awhile. Hope you are well.
